PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride): Chosen for its excellent chemical resistance (especially to halogens, acids, bases, and solvents), high purity, good mechanical strength, UV resistance, and relatively high-temperature capability compared to other thermoplastics.
Type:
Y-Type Strainer: Designed for inline mechanical removal of unwanted solids from liquid, gas, or steam lines via a filtration element (screen) housed in a Y-shaped body. Allows for easy cleaning via a blow-off connection.
Size Range:
Typically available from 1/2" (DN15) up to 4" (DN100). Larger sizes might be available from specialist manufacturers but are less common than metal equivalents.
End Connections: (Specify required type)
Flanged: ANSI B16.5 Class 150, DIN PN10/PN16, JIS 10K
Threaded: NPT (National Pipe Thread), BSP (British Standard Pipe)
Socket Weld: For solvent cementing or welding into PVDF piping systems.
Butt Weld: For welding directly into PVDF piping systems.
True Union: Allows for easy removal of the strainer body from the pipeline for maintenance (common in smaller sizes).
Pressure Rating:
Highly dependent on temperature. Typically rated up to 150 psi (approx. 10 bar) at ambient temperatures (e.g., 70°F / 21°C).
Crucially: Pressure rating decreases significantly as temperature increases. Always consult the manufacturer's Pressure-Temperature (P/T) curve for the specific model.
Temperature Rating:
Maximum operating temperature typically ranges up to ~280°F (140°C), but this is highly dependent on the pressure and the specific PVDF grade and construction. Again, refer to the manufacturer's data.
Screen (Filter Element):
Material:
PVDF: Often preferred for maximum chemical compatibility and high purity applications.
Stainless Steel (304 or 316): Less common if PVDF body is chosen for its specific chemical resistance, but can be used.
Specialty Alloys: Hastelloy®, Monel®, Titanium (less common, for very specific aggressive media).
Available in Threaded as well as Flange-end connections.
Excellent corrosion resistance
No process media contamination
Optional Threaded Drain
No painting or coating required to survive a difficult environment.
Installation:
Before installing the simplex basket strainer, be sure its pressure rating is correct for the system. If the end connections are threaded, be sure the piping is straight and not at an angle or offset. If the strainer has flanged ends, be sure the flanges of the connecting piping are square with the pipe so that no undue stresses are put on the strainer or piping when tightening flange bolts. Tighten bolts in sequence crossing to opposites.
Maintenance:
For maximum efficiency, a differential pressure gauge installed across the inlet and outlet will indicate pressure loss due to clogging and may be used, as a guide to determine when cleaning is required. If the strainer is not set up for backwash cleaning, remove the cover access to the basket. After cleaning, replace the basket in the same position as before and tighten cover. Replace the gasket or O-ring if necessary. Keeping a spare, clean basket will minimize shut down time.
Warning:
Individuals performing removal and disassembly should be provided with suitable protection from possibly hazardous liquids.
Spare Parts:
To order replacement baskets or gaskets and O-rings, which are the only items normally required, specify the following.
Size of the strainer.
Specify service. For example: water, steam, gas, air, oil. The working pressure and temperature of the system and particle size to be strained out should also be specified
